Filling gaps in the floor

floor boardWhen repairing an old plank floor, fill the gaps with wood putty. The work will be facilitated by a template with a longitudinal cut, sliding along the slot. Kit can be easily pressed into it with a putty knife. Such a template should be cut out of thin stainless steel, thick cardboard or plastic. The width of the slit in the slab should be equal to the width of the slit in the floor. The template should be in length 50-60 cm.

Removing blisters from under the wallpaper

If there are bubbles in the wallpaper stuck to the wall, they can be removed by moistening the wallpaper with water, and then injection under the bladder with a medical syringe and a needle of Wikol glue. Then you can press the wallpaper carefully. The wallpaper can be effectively soaked by applying a piece of newspaper dampened with water. In the case of large blisters, it may be necessary to make a slight cross-incision in the wet area and then apply pressure.

Filling wooden floors

To obtain an aesthetic appearance of a wooden floor made of mosaic or stave planks, it must be leveled after the first sanding. This applies to both new floors, and undergoing renovation. We use special ready-made putties or prepared by ourselves from wood dust resulting from sanding and a special liquid preparation. Such putties remain flexible after hardening.

Position adjustment

When making various types of strip or plank paneling, the grate of the batten battens must be placed in one plane. Means, that the forehead of each batten must be aligned with the others by checking the position of the long batten, a simple patch. Any dents must be corrected by inserting a wooden wedge under the batten. After insertion, it is blocked by hammering a nail.

Marking of chimney channels

When planning the change of use of individual rooms, it is necessary to take into account the arrangement of channels in the chimney shaft, and thus the possibility of ventilating some rooms, or connecting a heating boiler or fireplace. It will not always be possible to connect e.g.. gas boiler supplying central heating to the ventilation or smoke duct. In the project, individual channels are marked in a different way.

Cutting off the color on the wall

When cutting off the color on the painted wall below the ceiling corner, we can use a plastering trowel, sliding along that corner. Its lower edge will be used to guide the brush with the paint. In this way, we cut off the colors at the so-called. painting faceted walls. Facets – are horizontal stripes on the wall near the ceiling, painted in the same color as the ceiling.

Removing a broken screw

To remove the broken-headed screw, we drill a hole in the axis, and then stick the end of the file into it. Now, using an open-ended spanner or a suitable pliers, we can carefully unscrew the spindle of the screw. For twisting out, we can use files with both square and triangular handles. We can use the old one, blunt or even broken file.

Connecting slats along their length

The frontal gluing of a broken wooden part may not be durable. We can increase the strength of the joint, additionally pasting a thin wood insert, in the shape of a double dovetail. First, cut a paste out of the wood, we put it on both joined parts and mark the shape. After carefully cutting out the shapes in the slats, you can glue the paste over with carpentry glue and sand it thoroughly.

Unscrewing the siphon with a string

A thicker slat can be used to unscrew the cover of the wash basin siphon or any other plastic or metal siphon. We surround the cover with a thick string and also wrap it around the slat. We unscrew the cover easily, without damaging it. The string must be tightly twisted both on the siphon and on the strip. Additional strong clamping is obtained by tilting the bar when unscrewing.

Opening a drawer without a handle

A drawer, which is difficult to pull out when the handle is pulled out, can be extracted using a rubber sewage plunger – it is enough to squeeze its bowl to the front of the drawer. After pulling out, let's put on a makeshift handle made of a piece of wire or a screw, so as not to use the plunger constantly. It is also possible not to push the drawer all the way in, a to open by the edge.
