Attic furniture, part 1

Attic furniture.

It is difficult to buy ready-made furniture with appropriate dimensions for the attic. To make the best use of the attic space, it's best to build the right furniture yourself. Our proposal presents a combination of furniture, wall trim and partition.

Pictures show, how versatile is the attic furniture construction system proposed by us. Bookcase, which at the same time serves to divide the room, can be extended by one field in the case of, when the roof is sloping down to the floor. There are panels on the low knee wall, which are also an important element of the proposed interior design, because the handy tables, bedside tables or a work table can be fixed in any place and, if necessary, moved along the wall.

The presented attic building system is functional and versatile. These are the indispensable features of furniture intended for an adapted attic, because rebuildable attics often have pitched roofs with different angles, from 30 do 48 degrees – and carpentry work is rarely so accurate, so that you can do without measuring a specific angle. Because the dimensions of each attic are individual, the presented drawings for our article can only familiarize DIY enthusiasts with the principles of construction. The dimensions of the elements refer to the case of an inclined roof 45 degrees. Thickness, the depth and width of the individual pieces of furniture and fittings as well as the height of the tables are appropriate in each case. Although there are sometimes problems when determining the height of a desk. On the one hand, the sidewall must be split like this, so that panels of equal width can be placed on it, on the other hand, a suitable gap is needed, in which you can embed a desk top at the perfect height. Three centimeters higher or lower than this height do not change the usefulness of the desk, and the number of panels can therefore be appropriately selected yes, to find a compromise between the two.

The panels and furniture proposed to be built are made of laminated on both sides, white chipboard (19 mm), which has been partially finished with edge strips and colored strips. Jako przykład podajemy również inne możliwe warianty kombinacji materiałów: chipboard with white laminate and edge strips made of noble wood species; double-sided veneered chipboards or carpentry boards with edge strips or noble wood strips in the same shade; chipboard with edge strips, which, after filling and sanding, is colored varnished. The last type of material, which is suitable e.g.. for arranging a nursery, it is probably the cheapest at the same time.

The mounting method also differs depending on the material selected. White chipboard can, for example,. tighten with visible stainless screws with lenticular heads. If you choose a coating that resembles precious wood, which, thanks to matt varnish or special matting, resembles the surface of furniture, rather, you should use an invisible method of linking. Mounting adhesives or special masses from the tube are good for panels, white carpentry glue will be used for furniture. In places, in which we anticipate greater loads, we should additionally use studs or reinforcement screws.
