Tools in the garden

Every garden owner should have the basic tools for growing it. A saving in this regard would be out of place. Commonly known tools are a shovel and a rake, but in biodynamic cultivation we use a few other tools, shown in the figure. These tools not only save our strength, but also helps to maintain the proper soil structure, thus contributing to the increase of its biological activity.

A wide-toothed forks is a tool with a wooden handle and four thick steel teeth. It is used for digging up the soil, and therefore for loosening, just like a shovel, however, it is easier to work with. They are stuck in the soil, and then it moves back and forth, thus creating deep holes in the soil. The SZ cultivator has a steel blade, crescent-shaped and ended with a goose foot. It is pulled through the soil like a cultivator, however, it does not require the use of so much force. Enables deep loosening of the soil, it does not destroy its structure, it is also useful for weeding and for harvesting root and tuber vegetables.

Norkros with 3-5 or 7 tines ending in droopy feet is used for shallow loosening of soil, and after the imposition of cylindrical, pointed teeth (claws) it is well suited for weeding.

Star loosener (akrator) it consists of star-shaped elements rotating on an axis. It is used to loosen the soil.

Krail, formerly used in southern Germany for digging up manure, it has four round ones, sharply ended, bent teeth. The perfect tool for bed preparation, spulchniania, smashing lumps of earth, mixes-
ting with a shallow layer of soil compost and other fertilizers, leveling the surface of the beds.

Hiller - "manual plow" - a tool with two blades, which, when dragging in the soil, deposit the soil to both sides. It is used for covering potatoes and other vegetables, preparation of grooves for sowing, furrows for planting and irrigation.

Tools for children, which initially only mimic the work of adults, should be sized according to their height and strength, np. wide shovel 11,5 cm, rake with 8 teeth, wide hoe 8,5 cm. width shovel 10,5 cm. These tools should be made of steel with a wooden handle.

Motor tools are useful in gardens, whose size exceeds 300 m2. Tools with the lowest possible number of revolutions should be selected, because the elements rotating too quickly have a very negative effect on the soil structure and the life of microorganisms.
