Program “do it yourself” Adam Słodowy
do it yourself (from English Do it yourself , and abbreviated as DIY) is a definition of the idea related to independent and non-commercial performance of various works mostly for one's own needs - most importantly – without professional help. Thus, the English term DIY appeared quite recently, because with the advent of the twentieth century, while it came into common use at the end of World War II.
In Poland, DIY is inseparable from the name of Adam Słodowy. Born in 1923 year in Czarnków, former soldier of the Polish Army (with the rank of major), turned out to be an unparalleled popularizer of DIY in the late 1950s, the originator of the program entitled “Do it yourself”, human, thanks to which many used simple devices for joyful DIY in the spirit of DIY.
It all began in a year 1959, when the Gomułka thaw had just come to an end at the level of national politics. Wówczas to właśnie Adam Słodowy kupił sobie w swój pierwszy odbiornik telewizyjny. A new thought dawned, when Slodowy watched a TV program then, of an educational nature, which he did not like. Embarrassed by the material, he went to television (then located on Pl. Insurgents), from where he was directed to the department editing programs for children. There too, after talking to the editor, which was Tadeusz Kołaczkowski, Adam Słodowy got a proposal, to write a script for a good DIY program. He started running his own show titled. “do it yourself” and its first episode showed how to make a bird feeder yourself. It was a hit back then, at that time, the children did not have many toys and it was extremely difficult to find materials, while in his programs, Mr. Adam Słodowy showed the process of creating such simple toys on his own. It was therefore a program strictly for the youngest and their DIY skills. While playing in front of the cameras, and with the use of basic tools, Adam Słodowy taught his viewers not only the laws of physics, because and more broadly – mechaniki oraz szacunku do narzędzi.
Spotkania z Panem Adamem Słodowym zostały początkowo częścią puszczanego w czwartek programu pod tytułem “Screen with Pansy”. Only later did they find their way to the Sunday program for children called "Teleranek". Malowy not only revealed ideas on how to make a useful toy, but also, most importantly, it sensitized DIY enthusiasts, how to rationally dispose of scarce materials in the People's Republic of Poland. All this follows a simple rule, that everything can be used.
The fact cannot be disputed, that Slodowy's shows made an almost electrifying impression on the youngest. The "Do it yourself" program was guided by how simple it was, but also a golden rule, talking, that “There are no capable and incapable people. There are people who are patient and impatient”. However, this one is wrong, who thinks, that Mr. Słodowy was a type of meticulous selfishness. Nothing could be more wrong, and as proof it is necessary to recall here, that it was at the request of Gustaw Holoubek himself that he prepared a special rotating type of scene, which the TV theater took advantage of. To this must be added, that Adam Słodowy was and will remain so - a man of impeccable Polish language and excellent diction, which you really enjoy listening to.
