When wallpapering an apartment for the first time, the problem is to calculate the number of necessary rolls of wallpaper. Here are some tips for handling wallpaper and glue.
You could say, that wallpapering has always been the domain of DIY enthusiasts. It is commonly believed that there is nothing new to say in this area, which any DIY enthusiast would not have known for a long time.
In the following pages, we remind you of some interesting ways to deal with wallpaper and glue. The basic principle, concerning not only wallpapering, there is a need for security. According to her, a ladder must always be stable, and constructions made of stoics placed on the table are not an option at all. The fuses of the electrical network of the walled room must be switched off for that long, as long as no switches and sockets are installed and all connections are available.
The colors in the room determine the choice of wallpaper (np. color of the curtains).
In order not to buy rolls of wallpaper of different shades, you should pay attention to it, that all reel numbers are the same.
Wallpaper report, that is, the distance between the repetitions of patterns, is stated on each reel and must be taken into account when measuring.
Fold the wallpaper pieces with the edges and fold them. Now we can be sure, that the wallpaper cutting knife will run perfectly perpendicular.
By joining larger works, it is worth having a device that facilitates cutting wallpaper and even covering them with glue.
Before wallpapering, fill any gaps carefully and smooth out any scratches and other irregularities in the wall surface. In stores, you can find sealing agents in the form of a powder (np. mothball), which, after mixing, have a sufficiently long drying time. Ready-to-use sealants are also entering the market, sold in vacuum-sealed containers. Normal plaster is also indispensable for this type of work, which has always been the cheapest material available.
Matching wallpapers requires accuracy.
Wallpapers are sold in rolls, most often with standard dimensions. The so-called euro-rolls have a width 0,53 m and length 10,05 m. They are enough to cover the wall 0 area of approx 5 m!. The number of necessary rolls can be calculated by multiplying the perimeter of the room by its height and dividing the result by 5. The number obtained is the number of rolls of wallpaper. When calculating, we do not take into account window and door openings, in fact reducing the surface area of the wall. In this way, we gain a supply of wallpaper, indispensable especially when matching the lengths of wallpapers with large patterns.
For rooms with a height 2,50 m from one roll you can cut three lengths of wallpaper. The remaining pieces, as a rule, are used to coat the surfaces above and below windows and doors. Always store wallpaper remnants, in order to be able to repair any damage with them. For the same reason, you should always buy one or two more rolls of wallpaper.
Not all wallpaper rolls have the same dimensions. There are wallpapers up to 1,20 m (np. raw fiber wallpaper) and up to 3 m. Metallized wallpapers are wide 0,60 m and length 3 m. On special request, they can also be delivered in rolls of other lengths. Special wallpapers (granite, ceramic, porcelain etc.) have format 0,91 me and 5,50 m, but also in this case it is possible to order rolls with a length of up to 50 m.
The mark of quality. Wallpapers marked with the quality mark are guaranteed, that the content of substances harmful to health is kept within the limits allowed by the standard.
Wallpaper – only one UK at a time – lubricate with glue as thickly and as evenly as possible, covering it to the very edges.
Fold the wallpaper smeared with glue with the ends of the panel inwards, and the dry side out and let it soften for approx 10 min.
So that the flap does not tear or fall to the floor when separating, we put it through the left hand, and grab the end of the wallpaper with your right hand.
The upper edges of the panels are placed on the line marked on the wall. Pressing the wallpaper with a rubber roller, pay attention to the contact points.
A special rule with a triangular cross-section makes it easier to trim the length of wallpaper next to the plinth, appropriately bending it at this point.
Preparation of a ruler with a scale every 10 cm will do, that the wallpaper trimming table will be even more practical. The varnish protects the wood.
Switches and electrical sockets (turn off the fuse!) cover with wallpaper and cut it crosswise; then cover with the switch cover.
It is difficult to avoid air bubbles under the wallpaper layer. The problem will be solved by a little glue dropped in with a disposable syringe.
