Around the fourteenth century, various materials and leathers began to be stretched on the walls. Wallpaper precursors, and therefore wall coverings on a layer of paper, they appeared in the eighteenth century in England and, above all, in France. Even the famous Montgolfier brothers' hot air balloon was built from sheets of wallpaper.
Advances in printing techniques and mass production have made wallpapers also available to less wealthy people. The final breakthrough in this area was brought about by the development of rotary printing houses in the 19th century.
